I am thrilled to announce that Nevermind (FS Numero Uno x Champus K) has been licensed by Westfalen NA.
We are taking the winter to get him more solid under saddle and then determine the best path forward towards full approval.
My two pony geldings, SF Starstruck and SF Smoke & Mirrors, had good show seasons. Both boys qualified for Regionals at third and training level respectively. Unfortunately, being a (mostly) responsible adult on a budget meant that only SF Starstruck was able to attend Regionals.
SF Starstruck was a little footsore prior to Regionals, so we didn't have the showing I had imagined, but he was stellar and trooped through unseasonable heat in several third level classes.
SF Smoke & Mirrors went to his second show ever. This lovely gem of a pony stepped up his game from Intro to Training Level Test One. We had some serious bobbles, but he still managed to put in a solid test and get a 64%. Now we have homework over the winter to solidify and improve the work for next year.
My glorious evil genius wonder pony, SF Starstruck, got me my bronze medal this weekend. We earned every score we needed together. He is willing to tolerate my incompetence in exchange for as many cookies as I can stuff in his face.
As if that weren't enough for a single show, we ended up Second Level Adult Amateur Pony champions. We even got a 71% on our 2-2 test on Friday!
My homebred Sanora (Shakespeare RSF x Lit de Justice xx) and I showed at Second Level at NWDA's Cooler by the Lake show. There were good moments and not so good moments. Despite the bad moments, we consistently scored 60% our first time out at Second Level. I'm figuring out how to prep and show this lovely, sensitive mare. Now we have lots of homework before we try again.
I decided to let SF Smoke & Mirrors have his first show experience at the schooling show in Iron River. He was a lovely, well behaved baby the entire weekend. We went for a good experience, but even ended up winning the Intro A class on Sunday.
Otter Creek is such a lovely facility. I took SF Starstruck to the first show of the season. We showed at 3-1 for all three days. His changes are still a bit croup high and his medium is still a bit pony-ish. Overall, I'm thrilled with how he did, even though our scores were low.
I'm sorting out which shows the horses are going to attend this year. This is my tentative schedule:
I'll likely add a few shows, depending on how the ponies are feeling.
Pony Cup is one of my favorite shows of the year. The staff and volunteers who run this show are absolutely top notch. They really treat the competitors as if they are valued customers. For small horse or pony enthuasists, I highly recommend attending!
SF Starstruck and I went and showed at second level. After a few years trying to get my AA status back, this was my first show competing as an AA. We ended up finishing fourth for second level! We have lots of room for improvement, but overall, I'm very pleased with the result.
Our first horse show of the year was not the most amazing start we've ever had, but SF Starstruck did get his permanent pony card this year.
SF Smoke & Mirrors also went off to be started. I hope to go visit him soon and check on his progress.
As the last few days of 2020 creep by, I hope that everyone has some time to enjoy their family (both two-legged and four).
Although I doubt this year was what anyone planned, there were also many things for which I am thankful.
And now, onward to 2021! May it be everything that 2020 wasn't.
I bought a German Riding Pony colt in Germany in early June. It was a long, anxious wait to fly him home, but he's finally here!
He was bred by Reinhard Kramer and is the full brother to Neverland WE. I'm very excited that I was able to add this guy to my herd.
So this happened.
Sanora and Sam ended up Reserve Champions in All-Breeds for the Oldenburg Horse Breeders Society/German Oldenburg Verband for First Level Open.
I'm looking at this as the silver lining for this year.
Sanora and Sam showed at Regionals. This is the first really large show this mare has attended. As far as I know it was her first time seeing golf carts!
Overall, they did a lovely job. They finished fourth in two of their warm-up classes and in the middle of the pack in their First Level Open Championship class. Some highlights of their show were a 9 on one of their leg yields and 8s on gaits!
I pulled my two year old, SF Smoke & Mirrors (Smoke Tree Snapdragon x Meisterwind), out of the pasture for some glamour shots. He is maturing into quite a lovely young man. (Although for the record, he thinks glamour shots are an incredible waste of his time.)
Of the four sport horses babies I've bred, I'm excited to share that two of them are qualified for USDF Regionals this year!
Wrayza (Stibby Me x Wonderful) is qualified at training level with her Jr/Yr owner and Sanora (Shakespeare RSF x Lit de Justice xx) is qualified at first level with her trainer Sam Martinson. She also had high enough scores to qualify at first level freestyle, but someone forgot to add "Qs" to those rides.
In this abbreviated show year, Sanora (Shakespeare RSF x Lit de Justice xx) and trainer Sam Martinson still managed to qualify for Regionals at first level. You can see them at Region 4 Regionals October 1 - 4 at the National Equestrian Center in Lake St. Louis, MO.
